“The finest source of information available about organizing in the interconnected digital age”

“More than a decade ago Jane McConnell started paying close attention to and charting the deep changes to knowledge work wrought by the maturing of the Information Age.  As connectivity and collaboration have spread and intensified, her survey and analyses have deepened and matured.  I believe her annual survey is the finest source of information available about organizing in the interconnected digital age.”

“An excellent benchmark for us to check that our programme focusses on the key issues”

“We are currently undertaking a major change programme to encourage all our 150,000 globally dispersed employees to adopt new ways of working around collaboration and knowledge sharing using the latest digital tools. “The Organisation in the Digital Age” report has been an excellent benchmark for us to check that our programme focusses on the key issues, recognises and addresses the important challenges to success and implements best practice solutions based on the experience of organisations successful in the field. We are encouraged to see our vision and strategy is supported by data gained from real world experience across many organisations and have taken on board some very useful pointers to accelerate success. Congratulations again – it gets better year on year.”

“Jane McConnell is considered one of the pioneers of the digital workplace.”

“Jane McConnell is considered one of the pioneers of the digital workplace. Like DWG, she has helped to popularize the term and associated concepts, which are now also being picked up by organizations like Gartner. Her trend report series has been running for 9 years now and … (today)… is pitched much more at senior management in looking at organizational and enterprise-level digital trends, although it will be of equal interest to practitioners who need to be influencers and even change agents relating to this subject.” Full review.

“Strong correlation established between customer relationship and digital workplace”

“The most symptomatic evidence of the evolution of the concept of intranets is obviously the much awaited study published by Jane McConnell every year. The ninth edition was issued a few months ago and everyone should take two minutes to think about the deep meaning of its title : Organization in a Digital Age.

Even if the subject is still the same, what I’d call the digital work environment, the evolution of the title is meaningful. The very first editions were mainly about intranets, then came the word “digital workplace”, and this year there is no mention of any tool : it’s about organization. Understanding the reasons and the meaning of this change of perspective while the study is still about the same matter should be a mandatory work for anyone leading an intranet projet in order to take things by the right end.

Among the most interesting points of the study I’d mention the strong correlation established between customer relationship and digital workplace. That’s really something worth thinking about while everyone is rushing into digital transformation from a customer perspective while overlooking the internal side.” Full review.

“A turning point in the history of intranets and the digital workplace”

“The 2014 edition of Jane McConnell’s famous  report on the digital workplace has just been issued. In my opinion it’s a major edition and a turning point in the history of intranets and digital workplace. Moreover the report is not named “Digital Workplace Trends” anymore but “The Digital Workplace in the Connected Organization”. …It’s the reflection of a new reality : the digital workplace is not a nebulous futuristic concept anymore but a reality in a growing number of organizations as shown by the results and practices of the 20% most advanced ones among the 314 surveyed….The report  comes with 23 case studies showing concretely how leading organizations have made progress, based on the digital workplace scorecard.
“The Digital workplace in the Connected Organization” will not only help organizations to elaborate their vision and ambition, but also to benchmark their initiative and measure their progress. A must read.” Full review in English. En français.

“The most comprehensive report about the digital workplace”

Jane’s report, ‘Digital Workplace in the connected organization’, is the most comprehensive report about the digital workplace. It’s her 8th report and it again contains loads of information and interesting insights. As I’ve said before: It’s a must-have for every person interested in or working the intranet, digital workplace and social business space. By the way, Jane regularly shares insightful nuggets from her research and extensive experience over on her blog. Review here.

“The data confirms our intuition about several priority areas for our next phase.”

“Our Scorecard makes very interesting reading, I find. The data confirms our intuition about several priority areas for our next phase. I’m thinking of doing a one-pager on it and passing it up to “the powers that be”. Useful indeed.”

“There are a small number of people in any area of endeavor who become recognized as builders of fundamental frameworks that stand the test of time and become the accepted way of managing complex problems.”

“There are a small number of people in any area of endeavor who become recognized as builders of fundamental frameworks that stand the test of time and become the accepted way of managing complex problems. Notable examples include John Zachman for enterprise information architecture,  Edgar Codd for relational databases and Murray Gell-Mann for elementary particles. Jane McConnell, of NetStrategy/JMC,  deserves to be added to that list for her work on digital workplaces…….No matter where you are on your digital workplace journey, and even if you have not yet started, this report will provide an agenda for discussion and action over the coming year that could transform your organization and with it your career.” Full review.

“A detailed and fascinating study… (to help us) remain sane, confident and informed.”

“As the digital world of work transforms how we all work (and live), how can we get a perspective on what is happening and what it means for each individual and organization? One essential way to see the beyond our immediate challenges and opportunities is to keep the “The Digital Workplace in the Connected Organization”  by Jane McConnell by our side throughout 2014 and dip in and out of this detailed and fascinating study. So while those around us are ‘losing their heads’ (digitally speaking) we can each remain sane, confident and informed.”
